We’re so excited to introduce the newest title in our STEM Princess Series - Princess Marie and the Great Garden Mystery! This enchanting story is more than just a fairy tale. It’s a playful, empowering introduction to the scientific method for little learners who love to ask “why?” and “what if?”
🕵️♀️ What’s the Story? In Princess Marie and the Great Garden Mystery, something strange is happening in the royal garden. The flowers are wilting, losing their bright colors, but instead of panicking, Princess Marie grabs her STEM supplies and puts her royal curiosity to work with the help of the Science Wizard! As she investigates, Marie models the steps of the scientific method:
She discovers that science isn’t just something done in a lab, it’s a tool we use every day to solve problems, make sense of the world, and create a brighter future! 💡 Try the Scientific Method at Home! You don’t need a garden (or a crown!) to help your child explore the world like a scientist. Here are a few ways you can spark inquiry at home: 🔬 Kitchen Science: Try predicting which fruits sink or float in water. Why do you think that is? 🌦 Weather Watchers: Have your child record the weather each day and see if they can notice any patterns. Do sunny days come after clouds? 🧼 Soap Detective: Test what happens when you wash different surfaces with water vs. soap and water. Or try different cleaning tools like a brush vs. a sponge vs. your hand. What do you think will clean best? 🧃 Taste Tests: Try blindfolded taste tests with different fruits. Can they guess the fruit? What happens if you pinch your nose? Remember, it’s okay (and awesome!) if things don’t go as expected. That’s part of learning how to test and try again—just like our STEM princesses! 🎨 Extend the Story with Coloring Pages To bring the story to life, we’ve created coordinating Princess Marie coloring pages that you can use as conversation starters or quiet-time activities. Welcome, STEM Princesses! Let's dive into the magical world of chemistry to create our very own Love Potion No. 1! Don’t worry — this isn’t just any fairytale potion; it’s a scientific experiment in disguise! Using sparkly science, and enchanting ingredients, we’ll explore how different substances mix, just like real chemists do in their laboratories. Along the way, we’ll learn about density and polarity all while crafting a sparkly potion fit for a princess! So grab your tiaras and your safety glasses — it’s time to discover the magic of STEM! Questions to ask:
STEM Vocabulary: 💖 Density – How heavy or light something is compared to its size. In our potion, liquids with different densities will layer instead of mixing—just like oil floating on water! 💖 Polarity – A property that determines what liquids mix and what stay separate. Water is polar (it likes to stick to itself), while oil is non-polar (it doesn’t mix with water). That’s why oil and water don’t blend in our potion! 💖 Solubility – How well something dissolves in a liquid. Some ingredients (like sugar or food coloring) dissolve in water, while others (like glitter or oil) do not. 💖 Viscosity – How thick or thin a liquid is. Honey and syrup have high viscosity (they flow slowly), while water and juice have low viscosity (they flow quickly).
